Today we share the story of Mitch and Maddie who chose to defy convention and opt for an intimate elopement that truly reflects their love story. In ICELAND no less! Maddie and Mitch embarked on a journey that blended their enduring love story with a vision for an authentic and unforgettable elopement. This post will take you through their journey – from their story to their elopement day and all the adventures in between.

High School Sweethearts

Maddie and Mitch’s love story began in the most unexpected place: high school chemistry class. They shared an instant connection when they started talking as friends, but love soon blossomed. Their high school days were punctuated with stolen moments and hallway walks, becoming closer as partners and friends.  After graduating from high school, they took a big leap and decided to live together, a testament to the strength of their belief in their future. Their love story unfolded over a decade marked by shared experiences and their beloved pets. In their hearts, they knew they were soulmates, but they were in no rush to walk down the aisle.  Maddie and Mitch had always dreamed of owning a home together first, a goal they realized last year! Having completed their big purchase, the couple attended a friend’s wedding and were inspired to make their commitment official after 11 years.

Iceland: The Perfect Backdrop 

Maddie and Mitch have always been a quiet couple. Preferring to share adventures and special memories over grand gatherings. They knew they would regret not having the beautiful dress, cake, tux, and photos of a traditional ceremony, but wanted to opt for the privacy of an elopement. Their dreams led them to the stunning landscapes of Iceland and an EZ Elopement adventure Elopement! They were drawn to Iceland’s breathtaking scenery and the charm of a midnight sun after hearing stories of a family member’s trip to the beautiful island. With a whole country in mind, our team went to work researching adventures in this picturesque setting. We worked on several options and potential timelines before settling on the perfect itinerary. These choices would provide the perfect atmosphere for a stress free celebration.

Elopement Day Timeline & Experience

The elopement day itself was a masterpiece in the making. Starting at 6:00 PM when Maddie and Mitch got ready at a cozy AirBnB cabin. The couple shared the getting ready experience, helping each other dress and taking time to sit together and savor the little moments of such a big day while our amazing stylist got them ready. Maddie wore a stunning low back ivory dress with sparkles and Maroon heels, for Mitch a tailored Maroon suit with a custom made lining and pocket square showing photos from their lives together. They opened personal gifts from their family (a scrapbook of the couple’s shared love story)  and took a shared minute to write romantic vows to exchange later.

Finally dressed and ready, the couple shared a special moment near the Airbnb to have a First Look. They ran through grassy fields to embrace, laughing gleefully as the videographer and photographer captured their pure joy. Once ready, we departed for a gorgeous secluded waterfall a short 25-minute drive from their lodging. One 15-minute hike later we came to a stunning vista where they immersed themselves in the beauty of the location, capturing breathtaking photos and exchanging love letters. After an hour or so of exploring, we headed to the local lupine fields where the couple came upon their romantic picnic. Sipping champagne, tasting local charcuterie and a decadent chocolate cake, Maddie and Mitch savored their last moments as an engaged couple. They even found time to skateboard on a mountaintop, having a truly unique adventure.

A Perfect Memory in Iceland

Eventually as the midnight sun started to lower in the sky, we headed to a stunning Black Sand Beach where Maddie and Mitch exchanged their handwritten vows against this dramatic backdrop. They finished their night with stunning portraits and some golden hour dancing on the coast.
